Melanie Hartzog is the Director of the New York City Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB). In this role she oversees the expense and capital budgets of all New York City agencies and implements the City's borrowing and bond programs. Before serving as the Budget Director, she was OMB’s Deputy Director for Health and Social Services, where she helped shape some of the de Blasio Administration’s most critical policy initiatives.
Previously, she served as the Executive Director of the Children’s Defense Fund – New York, was the Family Services Coordinator for the Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services, and served as Deputy Commissioner for Child Care and Head Start within New York City’s Administration for Children’s Services.
Budget Director Hartzog received her B.A. from Eckerd College, and holds an M.S. in Public and Urban Policy from the New School’s Milano School of International Affairs.
